We only got down into Hout Bay at around 11 a.m., and by then Kane knew that he wasn’t going to accomplish both goals that Friday: finish the 13 peaks and help Pippa move. He had a choice to make. So, he did the right thing and phoned Pippa to apologise that he wasn’t going to be able to help her move. He did, however, promise that he would help her unpack all the boxes for the rest of the weekend. “

“We could not have gone more than a couple hundred metres when the next thing I see are these massive, table-sized boulders bouncing down the mountain towards us. It was one of those split-second decision-making moments: Should we risk it and run? Or try to make it back? It was like being in a video game where you have to dodge the obstacles coming at you from all angles. I was thinking that I might try to run through it, but a couple of boulders landed too close for comfort, and instead I decided to head back to safety. Rocks were still flying past us and, taking shelter behind a low kraal wall, I could hear Wiesman and his crew shouting and screaming higher up. I’m leaving Chamonix with such a mixture of emot

I’m leaving Chamonix with such a mixture of emotions. Disappointment, sadness , gratitude but I am content I gave it my best go.

UTMB has been a big dream of mine but it has also led to most of my failures in the sport. I have just never been able to get it right. Would I do it all again? Faaak yeah, what an epic ride it has been.

Time to close this chapter and chase the next dream. Maybe a 250 miles in 🌵 🏜️ 🤔 😂

Not the way I planned to end my UTMB journey. Unfortunately I rolled my ankle twice in the early stages of the race and had to stop. I am super disappointed but at the same time I know that I gave it my all to be on the start line in my best possible shape.

Thanks to my family, dream givers, Ryno, support team, friends and all of you for your support of my dreams🙏🏽

Onwards and upwards!
